Nike Festival of Miles to be Live Streamed on Milesplit

MileSplit is thrilled to announce a live webcast on Thursday night June 5th of  the  meet that is fast becoming one of the best post-season high school events in the country; the Nike Festival of Miles in Saint Louis, Mo.  Anyone with a Milesplit subscription will be able to watch all of the races LIVE.  Those that do not have a subscription can purchase a yearly plan for $48 ($4/month) or a monthly plan at $8 a month.   The meet began in 2008 as way to raise money for Brigette Schutzman, a standout middle distance runner at Saint Louis University. The highlight of the night was a sub four-minute-mile attempt by the pros. It didn’t happen that first year but it’s happened every year since and 12 times total. The meet record is a blazing 3:55.29, set by Olympic Silver Medalist Leo Manzano. The charity portion of the meet remains with all ticket sales going to an athlete in need each and every year.

The high school portion of the meet was introduced in 2011 with boys and girls miles that were won by current collegiate stars Daniel Everett (Columbia) and Colleen Quigley (Florida State). The meet now features three high school events; the mile, the 800 and the 100.  Athletes enter the meet online throughout the high school season with meet organizers accepting the top 16 100 meter times, the top 15 mile times and the top eight 800 meter times.

The high school fields promise to be the best yet.  Names include Josh Evans (US#2 in the 1600m, US#3 in the 800m), and Spencer Haik, who beat Josh Evans at the Kansas Relays and is the defending FOM champ.  Other state’s top milers will line up including Illinois' Patrick Perrier and Kentucky's Patrick Gregory.  The girl’s mile will feature two of the best sophomores in the country in Stephanie Jenks and Taylor Werner, both of whom ran under4:50 a year ago at this race. Both fields are expected to be incredibly deep with 12 girls already entered at 5:01 or better and 15 boys at 4:15 or better.

The girls 800, a new event, will be headlined by Karina Liz of Illinois, coming off of a record-setting 2:10 at the State Meet, and Hannah Long, the Missouri State champ in 2013.  Michael Wells, defending FOM Champ and Adidas Dream 100 Qualifier will headline the boys 100m, with Payton Stambaugh, four time state champion out of Arkansas, headlining the girls 100m.

Accepted entrants will be announced on MoMilesplit on Sunday.  Those that are interested in competing at the Festival of Miles in the HS All Star Races can enter here.

MileSplit will be bringing you all of this action live beginning at 7pm central time on Thursday June 5. The coverage will include all of the high school all star races as well as the professional women’s 800 and the professional men’s mile. World Championship finalist Heather Kampf headlines the 800 field while Nike OTC Elite’s Jordan McNamara is the favorite on the men’s side. For complete meet info click HERE.
