Weekend in Review April 2nd-8th

Back in Missouri the state both Friday and Saturday's weather finally cooperated allowing for hundreds of great performances. At the Bill Summa Relays Vontrae Booker looked to solidify his nomination as one of our state's best sprinters winning the speed hat trick taking home the meet titles in the 100, 200, and 400-meter dash. Meanwhile, on the woman's side, Raytown South once again looked great in the short sprinter relays along with a number of individual sprint titles.

As previewed the Northwest meet was lining up to be something special. Deja Ingram provided a lot of the fireworks! Miss Ingram looked to make her argument for the state's best sprinter over much-publicized freshman sprint phenom Alicia Burnett. Deja laid down the law running 11.82 in the 100, 23.81 in the 200, anchoring a ridiculous 4x100 relay to 47.78, and a 56-second leg on a state leading 4x400. Deja's long day helped lead Hazelwood Central to the team title over another solid performance from Lafayette. On the men's side, Marquette turned in a great team performance led by their 400-meter stud Colin Schwab hitting a season's best crossing the line at 49.73.

Timberland Invite was another big meet from the weekend. Click here to see pictures and video from the events of the day. One the woman's side Battle High School and Parkway Central went head to head. Battle ended up blowing away the competition winning by 45 points over the Parkway Central Girl's team. Battle would take home five event titles along with a number of top three finishes in multiple spots in the sprints, hurdles, and jumps. Battle looks like one of the teams to beat in the class five race coming this may.

On the men's side, Hazelwood West is looking stronger and stronger each week. The coaching combination of Levine and Burris looks like magic as the Wildcats keeping building. Probably the most impressive performance of the day was from West's two 300 intermediate hurdlers who battled all the way around the track finishing first and second overall.

Hazelwood has a nice balance of seniors and freshman that could be a fun mix if the kids keeping working hard for the remainder of the season.
