2017 MSHSAA Class 1-2 State Track Team Results and Podium Photos

The rain held off long enough for the MSHSAA Class 1-2 State Track meet at Adkins Stadium/Licklider Track in Jefferson City for events to finish on Friday, and Saturday's weather was great, helping to produce great individual performances and exciting team finishes. Below are the team results and photos of the 16 teams that made the podium, earning trophies.

Columbia Independent School senior Khristen Bryant won a trophy all by herself. A year after scoring 33 points and taking fifth in the Class 1 standing last year, Bryant totaled 36 points to take fourth. Bryant won the pole vault-in state meet record fashion, as well as the 100-hurdles. She also took second in the long jump and 100-meter dash.

Trophy podium regulars Salisbury captured the third-place trophy with 47 points.

Despite losing star Emily Wedlock to graduation and Northwest Missouri State University, perennial trophy winners Mound City took second after their first-place finish last year.

A year after scoring 59 points and taking third at state, the New Haven Shamrocks tallied 60 points to earn the state title.

Viburnum edged Calvary Lutheran (Jefferson City) by 1.5 points for fourth in Class 1 with 31.5.

Hardin-Central claimed at least their fourth straight trophy with a third-place finish this year. It's no coincidence the success has come while Riley Gorham's been at the school. Gorham totaled 35 points this weekend to help the Bulldogs total 45.

Rich Hill might have lost superstar Bryant Courter to graduation and South Dakota State University, but they managed to take second in Class 1 for the second straight year.  Rich Hill edged Hardin-Central by one point for second, 46-45.

What an improvement from last year. The Van-Far boys went from 11th last year scoring 22 points, to state champions this year with 68.

After missing a trophy by one point last year, the Plattsburg girls totaled 46 points for fourth this year. Most of those, 32.5, came from senior Hanna Williams who swept the 100, 200, and 400-meter dashes, while also running on the runner-up 4x200 relay.

Lafayette County scored just four points at state last year. This year the ladies racked up 48 points to take third-place in Class 2.

Just barely a decade old, Jefferson High School in Festus scored 56 points to take second in Class 1, just one-point back of first. Sophomore sensation Anna Heacock scored half of the team's points with 28, including a victory in the 100-hurdles, a runner-up finish in the 300-hurdles, a third-place finish in the long jump and a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash.

New Covenant Academy won their fourth straight team trophy. Two years after winning the Class 1 title and a year removed from a second-place finish, NCA captured  a state title in their first year in Class 2. They did so without one of the all-time great Class 1-2 runners in Claire Workman who's been hurt all season. But the team got a victory from Paige Cummings in the pole vault and great races from twin standouts Claire and Katie McCune. Claire and Katie went 1-2 in the 1600, 1-3 in the 3200, and 1-6 in the 800-meters. The team totaled 57 points for a one-point victory. The win gives the co-op team of Summit Prep Academy and New Covenant Academy out of Springfield, two state titles on the year after their cross country state title in the fall.

Bishop LeBlond totaled 43 points to hold off Butler and the Bears 41 points for the fourth-place trophy in Class 2. LeBlond was led by senior Jack Hausman who won the 1600 and 3200-meter runs.

The Charleston boys appear to have gone from not scoring a point at state last year to 43.5 this year, good enough for third-place and just a half-point ahead of Bishop LeBlond.

The Monroe City boys missed a trophy by 2 points and 1 place last year. This year the Panthers took second with 53 points.

A year after Cleveland NJROTC scored 53 points and took second to Skyline, the Commanders racked up 62.5 points for the state title. Making their performance even more impressive was the fact they did so without injured junior Jerald Allen, the 1:57 800-meter runner who was third at state last year and ran on the winning 4x400 and runner-up 4x800 relays.

Congrats to all who made it to state and to those who took home some hardware!
