Tentative 2019 State Course Plans - Gans Creek Recreation Area

Big thank you to Rock Bridge Coach Neal Blackburn for sharing with us the tentative plans for the 5K/10K course at Gans Creek Recreation Area. As we profiled last week, it appears that the course may be somewhat easier and flatter than the current course at Oak Hills Golf Center at Hough Park, but it may also include some hills and sharp turns. Notice, also, that it is one big loop through the recreation area, but it appears to come back and forth past each other throughout the race. Also, the many turns could slow some down, but it looks like the start and finish are both fairly flat - at least according to Coach Blackburn - a change from the current course.

The steepest uphill and downhill are the same and it appears this hill is called Terminator Hill. It appears that people who were upset about the loss of Firehouse Hill may be able to revel in a hill to which you can say, after ascending, "I'll be back." This course appears to be similar to the new course at Forest Park, Greg Wilson, and Cassville. MoMileSplit contributor and Podcast Host Connor Underwood put together course profiles on this new course and others to which you may compare. You can see those course profiles, along with the current state course, below. Course profiles were put together using plotaroute.com -- if you would like to check other course profiles that my be similar.

Of course, these plans for the course are still tentative and could be changed, but here is a glimpse of what is being tossed around at the moment!
