Bay= 10.81!! Bamburg 50.03!! Blue Springs does it again

The boys brought the heat today, posting some of the top times in the state so far this year! As the season gets officially started here at the Ron Ives Invitational, some big names make their legacy even larger and some rookies make themselves known:

The Boys 4x800, was insane. The Liberty guys took a stand at the start and held strong over the powerhouse Rockhurst Hawklets. As the final 100 meters was ran, Liberty had a slim lead but it was soon diminished as a catastrophic accident took place. The Liberty lead anchor pushed his body to its limits and left an opening for Rockhurst to pull off the win. Rockhurst took seize of the opportunity and won with a 8:10.46. Liberty was able to bring home 2nd with a 8:14.17.

Starting off the intensity was Roy Bay of Truman who took down Class 4 Runner up Adorin Dorsey of Liberty. Bay defeated Erron Holley on Monday and now has the fastest time in the KC area for guys 100 dash. Bay pulled off a photo finish win with a dominating 10.81 to start the season off! Followed right behind him was Adorin Dorsey with a 10.90. Both of these times place these all-state sprinters in the top 5 in the state so far. Morgan Steward of Staley came in with still an impressive 11.05 and Logan Cheadle of Lee's Summit West delivered a 11.16. With all these times coming in so fast, a few questions arise and the bar has definitely been set.

In the hurdles, Kolton Shindelar of Liberty posted a nationally ranked time of 15.32 for the guys 110 hurdles. James Lewis of Lee's Summit North came half a step later with a 15.84 and Tyler Blair of Blue Springs South came away with 3rd with a 15.87. In the 300's Ben Harvel of Blue Springs South flew over the hurdles winning with a 40.58. In 2nd place, Liberty's Lindell Watkins brought in a 42.52.

The 4x100 from Liberty just won over Blue Springs and Rockhurst. Liberty crossed with a 44.35 followed directly by Blue Springs with a 44.78 and Rockhurst with a 44.86. All 3 teams provided us with the best season opening 4x100 relay in meet history. In the boys 4x200 Blue Springs delivered again for the 2nd time this week, winning with a 1:32.11. This is the 2nd time this week the young Wildcat team has proven they can compete with the top in the state, their main goal is to compete well at state with the St.Louis schools who always seem to deliver when the time is right.

In the 200 dash Roy Bay defeated Erron Holley for the 2nd time this week. Bay came out with a 21.94 which gives him one of the fastest times in the nation this year. Holley came back though with a 22.29 giving him also one of the top times this season. Both of these athletes have the ability to compete with the best not only in the state but also in the midwest.

Liberty cleaned up well in the 400 meter dash as they placed 3 runners in the top 3 of the event. Max Bamburg went big with a 50.03, followed by his teammates Austin Morales (51.06) and Tim Hannah (51.44) The boys from Liberty took control of this race and have big plans to achieve greatness as the season continues.

The 4x400 concluded tonight's events as 12 teams took the line, one team came out the victors. That team posted a 3:30.51 and secured their spots as a top contender to make it to the state meet. Blue Springs South went out strong and had some near perfect handoffs throughout the race. But they weren't alone, Lee's Summit North fought hard and was able to bring in 2nd with a 3:31.50.

Ben Wharton of Lee's Summit West and Alex Lambardo of Rockhurst again went toe to toe in the guys open 800 run. Wharton got the step at the line and won with a 2:01.50 over Lombardo who went 2:01.90. Wharton and Lombardo posted the 2nd and 3rd fastest times in the KC area this year only behind Kolton Sheldon of Lee's Summit North who went 2 flat on Monday at the UCM Mule Relays.

One of the biggest stories today was Justin Brown of Truman taking down Gatorade Runner of the Year Zach Herriott in the boys 1600 meter run. Brown went 4:29.10 winning the event over Herriott of Rockhurst (4:30.10). In 3rd was Freshman sensation Stephen Mugeche of Blue Springs who  went 4:31.38 edging off his teammate Simon Belete (4:31.39). The teammates from Blue Springs bring one of the top duo's in the state. Watch for these two to bring a powerful punch later in the season in any distance race.

Zach Herriott bounced back in the boys 3200 meter run winning with a 9:37.70 over Sophomore comeback-kid Cole Rockhold of Truman( 9:43.52). Herriott and Rockhold came around the first mile split at around 5:00. Herriott bounced back with his 2nd mile in the 4:37 range, giving us a sneak peak of what he is going to be capable of doing this season. Rockhold looked strong the whole race and even led for over half of it, with more experience the young Rockhold will have a great shot at contending for a title come late spring. James Barnett of Blue Springs (9:52.61) and Michael McCulloch of Staley (9:59.50) also went sub 10 to start the season.

William Chrisman's Jordan Warner leaped a season opener of 6-06.00 in the guys High Jump, bringing home 2nd place was Jared Benson of Liberty with a 6-04.00. In the Triple Jump, Deiondre Hall won again with a 45-02.50. Hall has now proven to be the best Triple Jumper on the east side of the state this year. Nick Roofner of Liberty North also went big jumping 42-10.25 in the Triple Jump placing his name up with Tyler Lamb of Smithville as one of the top competitors in Class 3. Tyler May of Lee's Summit West vaulted 14-00.00 to secure the win over his teammate Logan Brattin who finished with a 12-06.00 vault.

Future Missouri Tiger, Evan Boehm of Lee's Summit West cleaned up in the muddy throwing conditions winning both the Shot Put and Discus events. Boehm had no trouble in either throwing 46-09.00 in the Shot Put and 149-11 in the discus. Boehm definitely has the strength and technique to bring home a top finish at the state meet later in May.

Overall as a team The Wildcats of Blue Springs got it done again beating the host team,Liberty BlueJays, 111 to 106.
