Since I wasn't there can someone explain to me why the younger Esswein kid was DQ'ed in a mile?
I just happened to ask the question about the run/jog up to the line at our district to the starter. I hate it because so many kids are off balance and fall forward on it and they have to call them up and reset.
I was told that the starters were going to wait until everyone was still and if there was a problem call them up, and reset. That they were not trying to DQ anyone in races 800 and up for that, it would just be an unfair start or something to that effect and as I said they would be called up and reset.
So is that not the case then. Seems to me that what I was told would be the thing to do as the false start rule though it has to be uniform I guess is really for sprint events where athletes can and do try to catch a flyer or anticipate the start. In the longer events its not the same not being in blocks that propel you forward and a "good start" is not really an issue.
