Courtney Coppinger 6th 2012 Paul Enke Hazelwood Central XC Inv Sep 15, 2012

St. Teresa's Academy senior Courtney Coppinger placed 6th at the 2012 Paul Enke Hazelwood Central Cross Country Invitational at the Sioux Passage Park Man-Maker course. Coppinger finished in 20:27 but the Stars had to settle for second place in the varsity girls competition as Ste. Genevieve kept them from defending their meet title. St. Teresa's scored 76 points, 5 behind Ste. Genevieve and 19 ahead of Jefferson City. Coppinger said she enjoys the cross state trip from Kansas City and chance to run the courses' hills, which help prepare St. Teresa's for the hills of Oak Hills State Meet Course in Jefferson City. St. Teresa's earned another team trophy at last year's meet and Coppinger said they want to be in position to run with the best this season. While St. Teresa's were second in the Varsity the race, the ladies dominated the Junior Varsity and Freshman race. 20120915124825 2012 Enke HC Inv Courtney Coppinger int.mts

Kaley Ruff 5th 2012 Paul Enke Hazelwood Central XC Inv Sep 15, 2012

Three sport standout Kaley Ruff surprised many last year with her 14th place finish in the Class 4 State Cross Country Race and she says she even surprised herself. Ruff was the 2nd of 7 freshman to place in the top 25 and earn All-State honors. After the cross country season Ruff went on to play on the Varsity basketball and soccer teams as a ninth-grader. Ruff has continued the success this season and had a good race Saturday with her 5th place finish at the 2012 Paul Enke Hazelwood Central Cross Country Invitational, clocking in at 20:12 and helping the Lady Jays to a 3rd place finish. The Lady Jays scored 95 points over the hill Man-Maker Sioux Passage Park course without one of the top 5 runners to place behind only Ste. Genevieve's 71 and St. Teresa's 76 total. 20120915121046 2012 Enke HC Inv Kaley Ruff int.mts

Nicole Mello 2nd 2012 Paul Enke Hazelwood Central XC Inv Sep 15, 2012

Nicole Mello had to settle for a runner-up finish in her first race of the season as the Hickman senior star was edged by Ste. Genevieve freshman phenom Taylor Werner. After missing out on the Forest Park XC Festival last week while taking the ACT, Mello was looking to defend her title from last year. While that didn't happen Mello, did manage a 3 second improvement over last year's time clocking an impressive 19:22 despite a run-in with mother nature. On the back side of the course, over the middle mile, a deer ran out of the woods in front of her which had to be startling. Mello will look to stay healthy and continue to run fast in pursuit of the Class 4 State title and a second straight trip to Footlocker Nationals for which she qualified as a junior in 2011. 20120915114608 2012 Enke HC Inv Nicole Mello int.mts

Taylor Werner 1st 2012 Paul Enke Hazelwood Central XC Inv Sep 15, 2012

Ste. Genevieve freshman Taylor Werner captured her third victory of the year and helped her team to the meet title at the 2012 Paul Enke Hazelwood Central Cross Country Invitational, Saturday, September 15th. The hilly Man-Maker course at Sioux Passage park in Florissant (North St.Louis County) meant no chance at nearing her astounding 16:59 clocking at last week's Forest Park XC Festival, but the slight Werner pulled away from Hickman's 2011 Footlocker Finalist Nicole Mello midway through the race and then put distance on her after the second time up Man-Maker in the last 3/4 of a mile. Werner came down the finishing hill to cheers and amazed fans, clocking in at 18:28, almost a minute ahead of defending champion Mello who finished in 19:22. Parkway West sophomore Maddy Brown and Rockwood Summit's Alyssa Jones were the only others under the 20 minute mark with Brown edging Jones 19:43 to 19:46. Ste. Genevieve put 3 in the top 11 with Rachael Huck 10th, and Taylor's sister Shelby in 11th, and six in the top 33 scoring 71 points to edge Kansas City's St. Teresa's Academy by 5 points with STA's 76. 20120915112913 2012 Enke HC Inv Taylor Werner int.mts
