The California High School Cross Country teams wore Waylon Martensen Memorial 5K shirts in honor of the inspiration of Waylon's memory and the support the Martensen family has offered their program. Waylon was a distance runner for CHS who went on to run at Northwest Missouri State until his tragic death in 2010. CHS did not have a cross country program when Waylon attended, but he was a member of the group who persuaded the school board to offer one.
