2014 MO HS State XC Ste Gen Jr Girls Take 2nd Class 3 on Tiebr

Interview with the Ste. Genevieve junior girls foursome of Mallory Koller, Mia Jerman, Amy Huck, and Taylor Werner after they nearly pulled off a third straight MSHSAA Class 3 Girls Cross Country state title. The Ste. Genevieve squad tied rival Festus with 72 points for first, but lost on the tie-breaker. The team has had an up and down season filled with injury, making the state meet performance an impressive one. Despite sitting out competition for more than a month due to knee and hip issues and recently discovered bursitis in her hip, junior Taylor Werner managed her third straight Class 3 individual title in easy fashion in 18:20. Mia Jerman improved on her fourth place finish from last year to take runner-up honors in 19:03. Amy Huck improved three spots from last year to take 22nd in 20:06 for her second straight All-State honors. Running with a wrap on her right thigh, Mallory Koller came up short of her previous two top-10 finishes. Koller settled for 28th place, just missing all-state honors by three spots and four seconds. Festus edged Ste. Genevieve by 15 points in the tiebreaker sixth runner scores, but the Lady Hunters weren't too upset to lose to their friendly rivals Festus, whom they train with at a camp every summer.
