Salute to Seniors : Maya Cody

Want to be featured in our 2015 Salute to the Senior Class? Here's how

What was your most memorable race/meet

I have many memorable races. My 200m dash prelim at state this year was memorable because I broke the all class state record. My 400m dash at the Marion Freeman Invitational was memorable because that's when I finally ran 55s. My 100m dash at the Great Southwest was memorable because I ran a personal best of 11.69 in a heat by myself. My most memorable meet would be Districts 2015 because I ran some of my best times in the rain there.

Who was your biggest competition?

Most of my season my biggest competition was myself and the clock, but Anglerne Annelus from Grandview has been my biggest competition for 3 years at State.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?

It's hard to say which one stands out to most, but if I had to choose I would say getting a chance to be on KSDK Channel 5 news after my performance at the Festus Early Bird.

What will you miss the most?

Practice with my teammates at South. The workouts were always hard but we found ways to make them fun and interesting.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Track and field is a sport where you will have good days and bad days. Don't let those bad days (meets) effect your determination to be the best you can be. Persevere and use those off days as motivation to do better the next time.

What are your college plans?

I will be attending and running for the University of Missouri #GoTigers

Who would you like to say thank you to?

God, He's blessed me with many talents. My parents, they are the primary reason for my success in this sport. My family because they've been supporting 100% along my journey. My coach because he worked me to the ground this season and it all paid off at the end. My teammates for making those workouts more fun and interesting (cough cough Lezoghia). My friends and others who supported and rooted for me this year, thank you.
