Pre-Season Rankings: Team Scores

Class 1 Boys

1. Van Far

Projected Points: 52

Last year's finish: 1st

Van-Far came up big and absolutely destroyed the Class 1 state meet last season. Unfortunately for the rest of the state, that appears to be the case again in 2018.

Lathyn McMorris is the big story for the Indians. He could put up big totals in the 800, 1600, and 3200 and could be even better than he has been after his first season of cross country. Parker Wallace is also slated to bring home a 10-spot in the quarter and Trevor Crider will pad the Van-Far totals with his hurdle points.

Not necessarily a household name, Van-Far will absolutely be the team to beat in May.

2. Valle Catholic

Projected Points: 31

Last year's finish: 8th

Valle Catholic gets a lot of their points from Brendan Meyer in the shot, discus, and javelin.

He looks ready to bring home 20 points for Valle, but will get help from Ryan Grein in the hurdles and more points in the javelin from Mason Skaggs. Valle's 31 is not enough to give Van-Far much of a scare, but they could be as low as eight and as high as two if everything breaks right.

3. Stewartsville

Projected Points: 30

Last year's finish: 6th

Stewartsville gets a big push from two guys: Isaiah Parker in the hurdles and Gage Rush in the javelin.

Teams grabbing points in the relays may hurt the Cardinals' chances at a podium, but Rush and Parker could add events to their workload as they really are only scoring in four. Regardless, they are a good bet to grab a trophy this spring.

4. Hermitage

Projected Points: 26

Last year's finish: 21st

It's all about Easton Sabala in Hermitage.

Sabala is projected to pick up all 26 of Hermitage's points and, like Barat Academy on the girls' side, single-handedly propel his team to the podium. Thirty points from Sabala is hardly out of the question, though, as we saw this fall and his Hornets teammates are good enough to get a solid 4x800 team together, too.
