Columbia Hurdlers Keep Dominating

It's been no secret that the hurdlers at the Columbia high schools have been dominating all year long. Courtney Watkins (Hickman) and Martez Manuel (Rock Bridge) battled it out at the Class 5 District 6 Meet this weekend. It resulted in both young men running season bests times of 13.85 and 13.89 in the 110mH respectively, which happens to be the two fastest times in the State this year. Watkins is also tied for first in the 300mH, and Manuel is ranked 3rd.

The Girls are pretty good too. Tyra Wilson (Rock Bridge) won District 6 in both the 100mH and 300mH. Her time of 13.92 currently ranks second in the State, and she's currently ranked 1st in the State in the 300mH as well with a 42.38. Meanwhile Paige Magee (Battle) won both hurdles races at Class 5 District 5, and is currently ranked 2nd in the State in the 300mH, and 4th in the 100mH.

Class 5 District 7 Girls 800m See's State's Fastest Times

Class 5 District 7 saw three of the four fastest 800m runners in the State square off on Saturday. Addie Coppinger (St. Teresa's) brought home the victory with a State leading time of 2:14.07, Audrey Parson (Lee's Summit West) took second with a 2:15.10 which is currently second in the state, and Madison Hulsey (Lee's Summit West) took third with a 2:17.84, and she is currently ranked 4th in the State. They could even run faster this weekend, as Madelynn Hill (Liberty) will join them at Sectionals after running the third fastest time in the state with a 2:17.82 at the District 8 meet.

Class 5 District 2 See's Two State Leading Marks

Clayton Whitehead (Carthage) laid down the top 3200m time in Missouri on Saturday. He won the district title with a time of 9:13.25, just edging out the previous leading time ran Christian Baker (Kirkwood) who ran 9:14 earlier in the year. It looks like we are going to get a rematch of this past seasons XC State Championships in which Baker edged out Whitehead going up the final hill at Oak Hills. Olivia Lyon (Ozark) also took the state lead in the Pole Vault this weekend. She cleared 12-6,  to better her former PR of 12-2.

Marion Country Freshman Qualifies for State in Interesting Quadruple

Delaney Straus (Marion County) qualified for the Class 1 State Championships this weekend in four events. While qualifying in four events is nothing unusual, its the 4 events she's qualified in which makes things interesting. She won the 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 races at Class 1 Sectional 1 on Saturday. She currently ranks 1st in Class 1 in the 800, 1600, and 3200, and is ranked third in the 400. If she were to win all four, it might be the first time that combination has ever been done.
