St. Ignatius Prep HS; Chicago IL-

It was a magnificent evening to run a distance race or two near the great backdrop of one of the world's greatest cities. As well, a fleet of boys was able to make amends and gain some semblance before moving on to the next realm.

The second race of the middle race determined the overall winner. Eight grader Dan Watcke of Hinsdale pulled away late in the affair from Quintin Lowe of Batavia and William Archer of Chicago to win in a fantastic time of 4:37.14.

The freshman race featured standout Micah Wilson of St. Charles East. As he has done on several occasions, he took the lead from the gun and controlled the tempo. He never relinquished the lead and won with a time of 4:36.09.

Next up was the Ray Mayer Elite races. The first of two sections was won by York's Michael Moriarty in 4:20.34. He and Wheaton-Warrenville South's Sean Maison had the same time except Moriarty's mark was 4:20.334 to Maison's 4:20.338. The second section had some heavy hitters involved. Rory Cavan of Glenbard West would battle the likes of Zach Kinne of North Allegheny PA, Ben Rosa of Lake Forest, and Josh Methner of Hersey. The first two circuits were 63 and 2:06. It appeared as though we would get a second-half burner. Cavan and Kinne set the early pace with Methner and Rosa on their heels. Cavan would be the one to open things up and eventually pull away with the victory with a time of 4:12.98. His 1600m was 4:11.52.

The final race of the evening was the Elite Men's Mile. Former Loyola University standout Sam Penzenstadler and Bradley University standout Michael Ward. Among the former and current collegian runners was a primed Thomas Shilgalis of Naperville Central. Shilgalis entrenched himself among the titans and held on for dear life. He hung for three circuits, hitting the bell in 3:08. The final time was Penzenstadler winning in 4:06.57. Shilgalis would place seventh in a big personal best 4:09.33 (4:07.78).
