Salute to Seniors: C. Gibbens, D. Schulte, M. Young

What was your most memorable race/moment?
My most memorable race was the DMR at Capital City Relays this year when we broke the school record by less than a second running 10:29, or winning sectionals in Cross this year.

What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
The funniest thing that happened during my running career was when we almost left our number 1 runner and captain in Joplin my freshman year when we stopped to eat.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
My biggest competition over my four years was probably Tom Seitzer, each year we switched who beat who at cross country state, and I always knew it would be a good race when Rockhurst was there.

What was your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was being a part of four school records this season with the DMR, SMR, 4x800, and the 3200, or the first time I was all state in cross country, and then again in track.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I would have worked at getting my mileage higher and been less scared of getting injured, while still being careful.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle was being injured a lot through my junior year, which held me back during my training, but I just had to keep working as much as I could and try to get better every day and in any way possible.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss doing strides in the rain and sliding on the pole vault mat.

What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?
Coach Doll has done a great job of turning the distance program around. My freshman year, our cross country team came in 10th of 12 in districts and we ran 9:02 in the 4x800, and this year we were able to win sectionals, and our 4x800 team even came in 3rd at state in 7:49. None of those things would have been possible without Coach Doll turning our program around.

What are your college plans?
I will be attending and running for KU next year.

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
I also want to thank my parents and family for being so supportive. I also want to say thank you to all of my teammates and coaches from over the years.
