Salute to Seniors: C. Gibbens, D. Schulte, M. Young

Name: Drew Schulte

School: Timberland High School

What was your most memorable race/moment?
My most memorable race would have to be districts cross country this past season. We went into the meet, almost 80 points behind 4th place as a team, meaning we had a very small chance of moving on. At least that's what the numbers said. We went in knowing that we hadn't raced a fast race in over a month so we had no doubt that we could get those 80 points. My favorite part was finishing, and waiting at the line for the remaining 6 runners and seeing that we had moved on. As a team.

What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
The funniest thing would have to be bringing my speaker to some of the XC meets. You would not believe the amount of people you can get together at an XC meet to dance. I thought it was pretty cool seeing that we had so many people dancing together at forest park this year that we made it onto the momilesplit instagram account.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
Myself. The first three years as soon as I would feel bad during a race I would just give up.This year I just tried fighting against myself and that helped a lot.

What was your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment I feel like would be our conference track meet this year. My times were not amazing by any means but after throwing up multiple times after the 4x8 I was very proud of winning the remaining 3 distance events.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
My only regret would be not getting into running until junior year and doing baseball freshmen year. If I could go back and train during the off season my freshmen and sophomore years, I think that things could be different.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
My junior year was upsetting because I wasn't even coming close to what I had ran the season before so finding the motivation to go into senior year XC was very difficult

What will you miss the most?
The people that I have met. There's nothing else to miss really. Ill still be running but it'll be different because im so used to running with my best friends everyday at practice.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?
The offseason is way more important than you think

What are your college plans?
I plan to run at Missouri s&t this fall.

Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
I would like to say thank you to all of my teamates over the las t 4 years. They have become parts of my family and they always pushed me to do more. I would also like to say thank you to both of my parents fro going to every single one of my meets. Whether that would be in new mexico, in kansas, or right down the road, they were always there for me and I can not say thank you enough for that.
