Class 3 Districts Preview

District 1

The Girls race looks like its going to be quite the bloodbath. Three of the top teams in the State, who all could very well hoist a State Trophy or even State Championship, will be competing for only two state qualifying spots. Festus, Herculaneum, and DeSoto are all separated by a mere four points and its really anyone's race to win. Whoever finishes third here will have a very strong axe to grind with MSHSAA over the qualifying process.

The individual race will see a matchup between Margo Nea (Dexter) and Lillie Kaempfe (DeSoto). Nea has the fastest season best coming to the meet with a 19:32 to Kaempfe's 19:52, and Nea won their only matchup this season at the Notre Dame Invitational by 7 seconds.

The Boys race will a preview of what the Class 3 State Championships will look like. The top two teams in Class 3 according to season best will be squaring off. Defending State Champion Festus will go up against perennial power Herculaneum. Neither of these two teams should be challenged much for the qualifying spots, but it should be fun to see how Herculaneum does head to head with Festus.

The individual title features the fastest boy in Class 3 this season, as Blake Morris (Notre Dame - Cape Girardeau) enters with a 15:26. He is the favorite to win the State Championship next week, and he'll have some decent competition this weekend with Jonathon Coffman (Herculaneum) and Simon Ogle (Festus) in the race.
