Tierney Wolfgram, who has decided to graduate from Woodbury High School (MN) early, has decided to join the college ranks and has committed to the University of Nevada, Reno, where she will enroll this fall semester, she told MileSplit recently.

Although only 16 years old, Wolfgram was taking online courses while training at altitude in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Olympic Marathon Trials this past winter.

She was coming into the spring track season a few months off of the Olympic Marathon Trials, where she finished 76th in the women's field in a time of 2:42:47. She was the youngest competitor in one of the largest women's Olympic Marathon fields to date.

In an interview earlier this week, Wolfgram talked about her transition back to training for shorter distances on the track.

"Honestly it feels a lot harder than marathon training," Wolfgram said. "I'm used to going out there and being out there for one to two hours for every run and now I'm coming back [to the track] and spending almost the same amount of time doing workouts on a track."

Even without an official season, Wolfgram has already put up some impressive time trial performances for the MileSplit Virtual Classic posting a 4:54.9 mile and 16:34.7 5K.

"I'm getting used to it again and it's nice to see my track legs come back at least partly," said Wolfgram. "Honestly racing is probably harder, it's really intimidating to go from a marathon, and then for my next race or time trial for the mile. I was actually kinda nervous for that just to see how I could do."

Over her high school career, Wolfgram was a four-time Minnesota state champion winning her first title in 2016 on the cross country course when she clocked an 18:23.80 to win the girls Class A MSHSL State title.

Her other three state titles all came in 2017.  Two at the MSHSL State Track and Field Championships, in the 1600m (5:05.00) and 3200m (10:41.84), and that same fall at the MSHSL State Cross Country Champion when she ran 17:31.60 to reclaim her class A girls state title.
