Missouri Cross Country's Top Performers in Class 3 So Far

Despite the very unique circumstances of this season, athletes and teams have still been able to run some incredible performances so far in the 2020 cross country season. We are going to take a look at those top performers today in Class 3.

Girls

Macy Schelp (Lutheran South) despite only having ran in two meets this season, has already left her mark. Her season best of 18:29 is the fastest time in Class 3 so far this season by 40 seconds. She's finished as the runner up both meets to Julia Ray of MICDS who will be in Class 5, and this last week she just got out leaned. Schelp is definitely in prime position to make a run at the individual title this Fall.

Kylie Goldfarb (John Burroughs) has only ran once this year, but her time of 19:11 at the Eagle Crusader Invite is good enough to be the second fastest time in Class 3. She finished third in that race behind Schelp and Ray, but she looks like she's in a great spot considering the lack of racing so far. She knows how to run in the postseason too, having already won several state championships across track and cross country.

Southern Boone freshman Alexandra Volkart has been the biggest surprise in Class 3 so far this year, and comes into the week with third fastest time with a 19:16 she ran last week at Moberly. Look for her to keep improving as the year goes on, we may have another wonder freshman on our hands!

Other athletes who have had good starts in Class 3 include Lyric Ford (Montgomery County) at 19:24, Kiersten Potter (Lamar) at 19:27, and Malia Rodgers (Montgomery County) at 19:28.

Boys

It's no surprise that the top performer in Class 3 so far this season has been Daelen Ackley (El Dorado Springs). He owns a Class 3 leading time of 15:14, which is 40 seconds ahead of the closest challenger. He's already racked up five wins in six races, with his only loss coming at the hands of Class 5 state leader Matthew Hauser. Look for Ackley to win his second straight individual state title this fall.

Caleb Lind (Lutheran - St. Charles) has had a stellar start to the season. His season best of 15:55 is the second fastest time in Class 3 so far this season, and he's leading a Lutheran St. Charles team that looks to be in the hunt for a state title.

Kelton Sorrell (East Newton) has had a blistering start to his season as well. He hold a season best of 16:03, which is the third fastest time in Class 3 and has been low to mid 16's in nearly every race he's ran this year. East Newton is a big time trophy contender this year as well, and he'll hope to lead his teammates to a podium finish.

Other top athletes in Class 3 this season include Joe Kremp (Lamar) at 16:10, Samuel Wilhelm (Knob Noster) at 16:18), Garrett Dumke (Maryville) at 16:23, and Landon Fatino (Pleasant Hill) at 16:25.
