Thursday night, the Jim Schmuck Patriot Classic at Parkway South was on fire with underclassmen in the Boys' 3200 meter run. Parkway West senior Wade Patten led the way with a 9:09.07 personal best, a MO #8 overall and #7 in Class 5 mark which broke a 55-year old school record, and Parkway Central sophomore Lucas Amador came across second in 9:11.67, the #2 time in Class 4 now. Both boys provided significant fireworks with Patten even negative-splitting the race (4:36.2/4:32.8), but we are here to highlight the third place finisher: Parkway Central freshman Blake Nagus.

After finishing 40th at this fall's Class 4 State Cross Country meet in a personal best of 16:57.30, Nagus has taken a massive leap forward this spring, breaking 10:00 in the 3200 all five times he has ran it so far and even chipping in two 4:29 marks. That mark makes him the #8 freshman in state history, the clear #1 freshman so far this season, and #21 overall in the state. Probably even more notably, he is the twelfth fastest freshman in the country.

Nagus has provided a lethal 1-2 punch in the distance events for the Colts this spring and seems to have the makings of a superstar. Keep an eye on the duo of Amador and Nagus over the next few weeks and, unfortunately for everyone else in Class 4, over the next two plus years.
