Scouting Report: Linn HS

Linn Boys

Last year Linn made an incredible run led by Kaleb Wilson to win the state title.  Wilson held off teammate Tyler Rush by only 3 seconds.  Rush comes back for his senior season to lead Linn to hopefully another state title.  Along with 9th place finisher from last fall, Chase Barbarick, their top two looks to be the best in Class 1 yet again this year. Behind them, Joey Nigles, who finished 61st as a freshman, leads the rest of the Linn team.  With the experience of winning a state title under their belts, the six returners from last years team should help Linn continue to be one of the best teams in Class 1.

Coach Bower Says...

"The senior class has a three year record of 26 wins and 5 loses (3 invitational 2nd places, 4th place at state, and  a 2nd place at state; 3 Show Me Conference Championships; 3 District Championships; 4th place finish Class 2- 2009, 2nd place finish in Class 1- 2010, and a state championship in Class 1- 2011.  (Overall complete teams in 31 meets competed- 301 wins 7 loses.  Undefeated last season at 87-0."

"We had eight runners on the boy’s team last season.  We graduated one and gained six others for this season so I am pleased with the start.  Granted, the one we graduated (Kaleb Wilson- State Champion Class 1) will be tough to replace but our depth this season and returning state experience will be a big advantage for the program.  We had a great team camp this summer and it appears our kids logged a good number of miles in the off season.  Our depth this season should make our fifth, sixth, and seventh runners more competitive and possibly an even stronger team than last year’s undefeated season.  Of course, asking teenagers to eat properly, hydrate constantly, and get a proper amount of sleep during the season, along with staying caught up with school work and family activities is sometimes harder than pounding the countless number of miles during the season.  If we stay healthy and do the right things, good things will follow with this team."

"The 34th Annual Linn Invitational will field nearly 40 schools this year and we always have an open invitation to any Class 1 or Class 2 team that wants to attend.  We will attend the Fulton Invitational which always has a challenging field and our conference meet with Fatima, Chamois, and Russellville will be another dog fight again this year."

"Our goal each year is to provide a memorable journey for our athletes and to uphold the respect for a program that I am privileged to be a part of and the kids are proud to represent.  If we keep this in mind, the destination will be “the icing on the cake”!"
