Herculaneum Girls
When you talk Class 2 you have to talk Herculaneum…and when you talk Herculaneum you have to talk Kaitlyn Fischer. She has always been among the top runners in the state but I am predicting a monster season for the senior. She is coming off of an incredible summer where she ran 17:34 at the STL XC Kick-Off as well as a mind boggling 36:13 in the 10K. She will have a great supporting cast as well. Mary Moloney finished ninth last year and should continue to be a great number 2 runner for the team. Brittany Bishop ran just over 12 minute in track and will look to continue that success this fall Also, Kaylin Manes ran 12:28, providing great depth through four runners. Sarah Cook is the 32nd place finisher from last year and is among the top 25 returners in Class 2. This team is great from top to bottom and should look to continue the excellent tradition at Herculaneum.
Coach Kasten Says...
"Though the heat was pretty frustrating at times we had a great summer of training with the girls logging over 40 miles most weeks.
Right now Kaitlyn is our #1 coming off a great track season. She ran in two races over the summer the Crystal Moonlight 10 k where she ran 36:13 on a really tough [hilly] 10k course in the dark at night in 90 degree heat. That time set the course record for a female by nearly 3 minutes. The old record was held by Maegan Hudson at 39:09.She also ran 17:34 at the St. louis Track Club's Cross Country Kick-off 5K. That was the second fastest time by a female all-time and the fastest time by a high school girl ever by nearly 90 seconds. She is ready for her senior season to be something special as long as she stays healthy. She is being highly recruited by many colleges.
Mary Moloney is coming off two surgerys from this past winter/spring one on each foot. She is presently our #5 girl in work outs but will be back in her top 10 at state meet form by November. She is a great leader and is competitive enough to be where she needs to be in the end."
Brittani Bishop is coming off a great year in track where she ran 12:01 at the State Meet placing 7th. She also ran 20:43 at the Track Club's 5K last week.
Kaylin Manes also had a great track season where she ran 12:28 for the 3200 just missing out on making the autmatic qualifying district time. She ran 20:49 at the Track Club's 5k last week.
Our freshman will round out our top 5 and has potential to be an all-state runner as does our #6 runner Junior Sarah Cook who is the 21st best returning runner from last year's State Meet.
We are also looking forward to seeing what Bailey Stilwell can do coming off her surgery. She is an outstanding athlete with great foot speed in the 400/800.
Our meet Schedule starts on a very tough course at Jeff City with the Jim Marshall Invite. Next is the very competitive Forest Park XC Festival. We then take an over nght trip to Joplin for the Southern Stampede. We follow that with Hancock where the team as won 9 of the last 10 Class 1&2 varsity races. We then go to Cape Notre Dame for some great competition on another fast course. That is followed by our conference meet at Farmington..... then District and State.
Our goals as always is to win confernce and Hancock, make it to the State meet so we can swing by the Central Dairy for the best ice cream in the state. After that we would like to contend for a state trophy.
These young ladies are not only outstanding ahtletes but outstanding individuals. They are tops in their classes academically ,and are outstanding leaders with great character. It is truly an honor to get to coach them everyday.
Some of our runners have hopes of running in some post season races ....Foot Locker Regionals and Nike Regionals."
