Scouting Report: Springfield Catholic HS

Springfield Catholic Girls

Springfield Catholic returns five from their second place team from last fall. Lydia Holtmann is the top returner; the 17th place finisher last year.  They also feature another All-State returner, Andrea Lampe, who finished 23rd last year. With Sarah Winton also under 21 minutes, Catholic should have a good trio.  The experience of their five returners will help them as they look to once again climb on the medal stand. They have finished in the top two for the past three years now with a state championship in 2010.

Coach Russo Says...

"Our goal for the 2012 season is to return to the state championship meet and again place in the top 4-a top 4 finish would allow us four consecutive years upon the trophy stand.  We were state runner-up in 09, champion in 10 and again runner-up in 11.  We return three all-state performers, all juniors; Lydia Holtmann (2x all-state, 17th in 11; Lydia fell twice during the 11 race yet manged a 17th place finish, she loves competition-a 2x all state soccer player who scored the winning goal in the 2010 championship game and the winner in the 11 3rd place game); Kelly Devlin, 12th in 2010; she ran first half of the season and suffered knee pain from a dramatic growth spurt second half of the season and could not go at state meet; she was one of the state's best frosh in 2010; Andrea Lampe, 23rd at state as a 1st year soph in XC.  This gal can run but she also plays VB and logs very few miles-she is a talent.  Also returning from last year's state trophy team are Anna Faulkner (junior), Sarah Winton (soph) and Courtney Ukena (jr,)--top returning alternate from last season is Rebecca Rosebrough (soph); top newcomers are Eva Holland (frosh) and Emily Goodman (frosh).  I hope to add a runner or two that could contribute during the first week of classes-that has been our history.  With Strafford and Stockton in our area, we could be 3rd best in area Class 2.  If we can stay interested and injury free, we should be pretty good by the latter part of the season.  Can we again challenge for the state title? I would never doubt what this group can accomplish.  Give them time to find their stride.

Our schedule remains the same-we travel no farther than Monett-our Invitational will be the largest meet in which we compete.  I have never recognized a reason to take too much time away from family, academics, and typical teen activities. "
