The MileSplit team score and virtual meet features like to paint a subjective picture of what the current state of affairs in each class looks like. That subjective picture takes into account season best times and, well, that's really it.
No head-to-head matchups, no course factors, no injuries, nothing. Just cold, hard facts.
Of course, you can look at the state of affairs using each athlete's season average, but that picture is hardly clearer.
When looking at these features, we see that some of our preseason predictions appear on track to come true. Others, not so much. We see run-away favorites in the Class 1 and Class 4 girls races and basically razor thin margins everywhere else. Perennial favorites Fatima (girls) and Festus (boys) have major challenges from Father Tolton and Herculaneum, respectively. The Class 4 boys race shows ten teams within forty points of each other, and that doesn't even include the number one and two teams according to our objective rankings - that's right, based solely on times, St. Louis University and Liberty are not even projected to make it to state, much less podium there.

Again, keep in mind that these are merely projections based on current season best time and in no way reflect our objective rankings, nor do they reflect how the rest of the season will actually shake out.
