Thanks Coach Hays for posting projected scores, this is my call for help in determining the top story lines and athletes to watch at this weekends state meet. Khristen Bryant will go down as one of the all-time greats, esp. in Class 1, who else deserves to be watched this weekend? Thanks!

@Auck In Class 2: Jack Hausman from Bishop LeBlond will likely win the 1600m and 3200m while also contending in the 800m. A couple underclassmen in Nathan Frazee and Isaac Ashton that may push him in the 3200m. I'd expect the 800m to come down to Harrison Frank of Russellville and James Allen of Cleveland NJROTC. The 4x800m will be a tight race between Russellville, Plato, and Woodland. But don't count out Cleveland NJROTC or College Heights Christian. And I know nothing outside of that class or those events.

Riley Gorham of Hardin-Central has been exciting to watch these past few years. At sectionals on a hot day he went 4:25 negative split in the 1600m, 51.16 in open 400m, 2:02.70 in the 800m, and cruised a 10:38.82 in the 3200m winning 3/4 events.

Just running the 400 and 800 at the same meet is a very difficult double. Running the 1600 before it makes it extremely impressive. Running the 3200 after all of that almost beggars comprehension. If he can make it through this weekend, the state meet should be almost a cakewalk by comparison. Sean Nunn Raytown South

His state meet is this weekend. However, he only won two of the 4 getting beat by Hayden Hackman of Glasgow in the 800 and Easton Sabala of Hermitage in the 3200. Riley is trying to be only the second male ever to earn 16 state medals. Former MU CC Coach, Jared Wilmes, also did the 400-800-1600-3200 quad in 88-89-90 when he was at 1A North Nodaway and all finals were in the same day. In 90 he won the 1st 3 before taking 2nd in the 3200. Hackman may be the first ever to medal in both the 800 and discus at the state meet. He also has a 3200 medal his soph year.

Personally I used to (back when I had good distance runners) tell my 3200 runners that their goal was to finish 4th and use as little energy as possible. If the 800 is on day 1 it will make the task easier. Sean Nunn Raytown South
