Record Watch: Class 2 Record - 56.61 set in 1999. Top Seed: Aiesha Irvin-Muhammad - 56.88
Coming into this weekend Aiesha Irvin-Muhammad was a contender in the 400m – not a favorite. After a huge PR of 56.88 and Class 2 leader Morgan Prather looking not fully healthy from a mid-season injury, Muhammad looks like she has the chance to win three events. Her 56.88 is second in the state behind only returning Class 4 Champ, Whitney Adams. The record stands at 56.61, within reach for the future Northern Illinois athlete. While this might be the toughest class record, all three (100m/200m/400m) are within reach for her. The title isn’t hers quite yet though as she will have to beat a field with three other sub 60 second quarter milers. Prather ran 57.78 early in the season but was sidelined not competing after April 16th until districts. She only competed in 200 events at districts but her injury was evident after a fifth place finish in the 200m. Just in the 400 at sectionals she clocked in at 63.24 to place third. If she can show the form she did early season she will be a threat to anyone. Two others that have gone sub 60 are Rachel Perea and Ashley Perry. Perea was second to Muhammad at sectionals while Perry was third.
