This race promises to be an exciting one with a number of quality contenders. The team with the best time this year is Liberty. They are led by the second ranked 800 runner, Denton Postlewait who was sixth last year in the 800. Their time of 8:19.93 puts them just over two seconds better than Lamar. With Drew Buckner at 2:00 and Zachary Ray at 2:02 they have two strong legs to bank on. Last year’s Class 1 champs, Valle Catholic, moved up to Class 2 poising a tougher challenge to repeat. For Nick Klein and the rest of the Valle Catholic boys, they know it can be done as they’ve run 8:25 so far this season. Two other teams enter into the state meet with times under 8:30 – Fatima and Mountain Grove. Fatima features the top Class 2 800 runner, Tom Zeilman, who ran 1:58.36 back in early April. My two dark horses are Linn and Herculaneum, both of which are always strong in distance events.
