Preview

Coming in .12 seconds apart would be close for a sprint, but for a race that covers nearly two miles is crazy.  The two favorites are the past two year’s champs – Gallatin (2012) and Lutheran St. Peters (2011).  The top time of the season has been 9:57.76 set by Lutheran at their home meet.  Led by juniors Courtney Rogers and Sophie Angell and senior Angie Steinbacher, this team has three incredible legs. Rogers is the second ranked 800 runner, only behind Sara Linn of Gallatin.  Rogers clocked in at 2:23.14 while Angell has run 2:24 this season. Steinbacher adds a 2:26 to the mix as well.  Gallatin has 2:21 state leader, Sara Linn as well as Kailey Salmon, a 2:24 girl.  The pair of sophomores led their team to victory as freshman and look strong headed into the state meet. Two other teams to keep an eye on are Stockton and Herculaneum.  With Kaitlyn Fischer, who seems to win anything she runs on the track, on the squad they cannot be forgotten. Stockton has the depth that most teams don’t.  With season best of 2:25, 2:27, 2:27, and 2:33 on paper they could run in the 9:53 range.
