This field is just full of talent. Five returning all-state runners (3rd through 7th) all are back for more. The top returner, Jazmin McCoy is one of five state champions in this event as she took the long jump a year ago. She is also the top returner as she was third a year ago. McCoy, who transferred from North Kansas City to Blue Springs for her senior year, comes in ranked second with a 12.03 at sectionals. Fourth in last year’s race, Ashley Henderson has the top mark, a wind aided 11.96. She received her gold medal in the 4x200 last year. Moving to fifth in 2012, Whitney Adams is back for another attempt. For those of you who don’t know the name, this lady can do it all. She went from a fifth place finish in the 100 to a seventh place finish in a race 50 times that – the 5K. Her versatility is incredible as she is competitive in whatever event she enters. Her gold medal comes from the 400 in 2012. Sixth place last year was Alexandria Isom. Isom’s former teammate, Peyton Chaney, was second last year. The duo played a huge role in their victorious 4x100m relay. The last returning All-Stater is Nataliyah Frair, the two time defending champ in the triple jump. The future LSU athlete as hurt for much of the year, not racing from April 13th until Districts nearly a month later. It didn’t take long for the Timberland start to get back in the swing of things as ran a 12.28 to make it out of the toughest sectional. Looking at the field, the five champs all have a good shot at winning this event as well as Waynieka Wheeler of William Chrisman. The senior was only three one hundredths of a second behind McCoy at Blue Springs this weekend showing she can compete with the best of them.
