Caleb Mather, Maryville senior, is back to defend his title after a junior campaign that saw him win the state meet by three and a half feet. Mather came close to topping the 60 foot barrier all the way back in early April, throwing 59-6.5 This mark is four feet better than his winning mark last year but only leads second ranked Will Fife by a foot and a half. Fife, a junior from Helias, will mark the journey down Stadium Avenue (the street his school is on, as well as Dwight T. Reed Stadium) once again this year as he is coming back from a third place finish a year ago. The only person between him and Mather last year was Alec Whiteside, also rejoining the field. His mark of 56-8.5 from sectional 4 was good enough to top the defending champ by over a foot giving him the top seed headed into the weekend.
