The Returners
Preview
There are four girls to keep a close eye on this one. The first is Asia Cole of Fort Osage. As a sophomore she won this event, throwing 143-5. She topped that mark, throwing 144-1 in early April. However, she is still third in the rankings. The top ranking goes to Moriah Dapprich of Branson, throwing 146-5. This mark would be first place in eight of the last ten state competitions. Still, she is less than a foot and a half ahead of the second ranked thrower, Tyra Bickham. The Blue Springs senior is looking to add precious team points to a team with a realistic shot at winning the team title. She claimed first at a tough sectional where Cole finished fourth. The last girl to watch out for is Madeline Middlebrooks, sectional 2 champion. Headed to track powerhouse, Oregon, in the fall, Middlebrooks has had a strong season, throwing 143-2.5 at her sectional meet. Two other girls come in having thrown further than 140 feet, Alysiah Whittaker and Cydnee Holmes, bringing the total to six girls (only Cole threw over 140 at State in 2012).
