Preview
Two girls come in with three years’ experience and 3 gold medals. Sara Rhine and Sydney Deeken have won this event every year at the State Meet. As a freshman, Deeken snapped Lindsay Vollmer’s attempt to win this event all four years. She successfully defended her Class 2 title in 2012 and now moves up a class. Rhine also won this event as a freshman, clearing 5-7 to edge out Mariah Hernandez by an inch. Hernandez will also be returning to Jefferson City as she is in the field. Rhine tied her stat winning mark at Districts, clearing 5-7 which puts her on top of the rankings. It’s no surprise Deeken is second, clearing 5-6 in late April. Zori Hollman also cleared 5-6 and could show both Deeken and Rhine their first loses in this event at the state meet.
