This is what you call a deep field. Depending on how this race is run, and if someone tries to push the pace, we could see some tremendous times. Four of the athletes have run 9:20 or faster this year, and all of the qualifiers have broken 10 minutes. Blue Springs teammates Stephen Mugeche and Simon Belete have had great seasons and come in with the two fastest qualifying times. Another pair of teammates, Nathan Keown and Evan Schulte come in challenging for the best 1-2 as they have run 9:18 and 9:15 respectively. Colton Rockhold, of Truman has run 9:16.10 this year and has the third fastest qualifying time. Although, McCluer North Senior Nicholas Stewart is ranked 10th, but he has run better than 9:20 in his career. A trio of 9:30 runners could also fight for the win, as Jeff Bachman of Central (S.J.), Adam Roderique of Marquette, and Dillon Williams of Webster have had PR type times the past few weeks heading into the state meet.
