The times from sectionals should not be used as a guide to predict the winner of this race. Eleven of these ladies have run 11:20 or faster this year, but only one has broken 11 minutes. That should give you an indication on how tight this race could be. Eureka Senior, Angie Sumner has the fastest season time (10:56.95) and sectional time (11:05.74) coming in. She is a competitive and intelligent racer, who puts herself in great positions to win. Jill Whitman of Cor Jesu Academy had a good race with Angie at sectionals, running 11:06.86 to place second. Rock Bridge teammates Kayla Funkenbusch and Sam Farmer both ran under 11:04 in late April, and have the second and third fastest time of the group this year coming in. Also, keep an eye out for team strategy as Rock Bridge has four runners in the event, an amazing accomplishment for any program. St. Teresa’s also adds a pair into the field with Courtney Coppinger and Ann Campbell coming in with the 7th and 8th fastest times in the field. Campbell ran her season best, 11:14.45 all the way back in March. Coppinger, future Kansas Jayhawk, won both the 1600 and 3200 at a tough Sectional 4 meet this weekend. This is truly anyone’s race to win.
