The biggest question – will the St. Louis girls sweep the top four places. Leading the charge and the heavy favorite, Hannah Long, comes in with a season best 4:49.95. It’s hard to see her not winning this race, coming in with a better time than anyone in field by seven seconds. Long is within reach of the record, just a couple seconds shy, but with the 800 final later and her having to set the pace by herself we aren’t suspecting her to make a run at it. The next seed goes to Lucy May, a new face on the scene. The St. Joseph senior, who doesn’t have a time from before 2012, dropped her best from 5:19 last year to an incredible 4:56.45. She beat out Jill Whitman of Cor Jesu. Whitman placed third in the 1600m and second in the 3200m a year ago. Also making it out of the super fast sectional 1 meet is Angie Sumner of Eurkea. Long’s teammate, Sumner has had a great year, coming in as one of the favorites in the 320m and a good chance of finishing in the top 3 for this event. She is one of only four girls in Class 4 to have run below five minutes this season. The Kanas City side also brings in some great girls to the field. Courtney Coppinger won the Secitonal 4 meet, beating returning fourth place finisher Kennadee Williams by half of a second. Coppinger was more of an 800 runner in 2012, but her transistion to the 1600m has been a good one, running 5:05.04 this weekend. Williams comes in the top runner for Lee’s Summit West, a program with rich distance tradition in recent years. Teammate Elizabeth Nolke also comes in having run a good time, 5:07.98 at the sectional meet, finishing a second behind Grace Klaussen of Blue Springs South.
