First Team
Michael Karls, SR, Festus (Runner of the Year)
Karls emerged from a group of runners with a string of great performances to cap off his senior campaign. Karls, who had runner up finishes at Forest Park, Hancock, and Chile Pepper, claimed the Class 3 Title in the fastest time at the state meet - 15:23. He ended his season with a 14th place finish at NXN Midwest, the best finish from the Show-Me State.
Clayton Adams, SO, Kearney
The Kearney sophomore came on strong throughout the year. He with was ninth at Forest Park, but things kept getting better from there for Adams. He had a big sixth place finish at Chile Peper before claiming the section 4 title. He followed that up with a second place finish, making him an early favorite for next year.
Tyler Gillam, SR, Festus
Part 2 of the Festus duo, Gillam had a phenomenal year. With four place finishes at two of the biggest meets in the region (Forest Park and Chile Pepper), Gillam positioned himself as a top five runner in the state despite not being the top runner for Festus. After a somewhat unexpected third place finish at State, he rebounded with a strong 23rd place finish at NXN Midwest.
Austin Hindman, SO, Lafayette (Wildwood)
You never knew who was going to be the top runner for Lafayette - you just knew they were all going to run well. Hindman, only a sophomore, wasn't who you would pick to lead the Lancers coming into the season. He wound up finishing third at State and followed that up with an incredible 19th place finish at NXN Midwest.
Stephen Mugeche, SR, Blue Springs
Mugeche has been in the mix for quite some time now. The Blue Springs senior came into the season with top five finishes the previous two years with a fourth place finish as a sophomore and a second place finish as a junior. He went out strong, capturing the Class 4 State XC Title.
Ben Naeger, SO, Ste Genevieve
Naeger might arguably be the best from the trio of sophomores. Of the three, he had the fastest time at state - second in Class 3. He also beat Clayton Adams head-to-head at Forest Park as well as Hindman at NXN Midwest. Naeger now has the best finish ever for a sophomore from Missouri at NXN Midwest after crossing the line in 17th.
Dylan Quisenberry, JR, Lafayette (Wildwood)
Quisenberry teamed up with Hindman to make Lafayette one of the deepest teams in Missouri history. Quisenberry finished second on his team at state with a fourth place overall finish.
