Makayla Kelby Earns Missouri Girls Track Athlete of the Year
The Lee's Summit West Senior was named the Missouri Girls Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year earlier this morning. Makayla had a stellar senior campaign, and I can think of no one more worthy of this award. Her highlight of the year was at this year's Kansas Relays where she threw for a State Record in Discus with a throw of 170-9. To go along with the record she won Conference, Districts, Sectionals, and State in both the the Shot Put and Discus. Last weekend she also picked up an 11th place finish at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships in Discus. Makayla has committed to continue her Track Career at the University of Washington next year, and we wish her the best of luck and congratulate her on the award!
KC Lightfoot Earns Missouri Boys Track Athlete of the Year
The Pole Vaulting Phenom from Lee's Summit was named the Missouri Boys Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year this morning. KC has been entertaining all of us watching in Missouri for the last two years, and he certainly has earned this award. KC just won the New Balance National Outdoor Championship last weekend, and was also third at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships. He also is the State Record holder in the Pole Vault at 18-5, and that is the second highest mark by an American High Schooler ever. KC was also Conference, District, and State Champion this year and his only losses this season were at the Texas Relays (2nd) and at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships. KC has committed to continue his Track Career at Baylor next year where we'll likely see him competing for All-American Status with fellow Missourian Chris Nielsen. Congratulations to KC on the award and good luck at Baylor!
