Kansas Relays Preview: Top Mo Athletes to Watch

Girls Sprints

The Girls 100m will feature a couple of Missouri's top sprinters. Danielle Frank of Hazelwood Central is the top Missourian in the event entering the weekend with a season best of 11.91. Also entered in the 100m is Class 3 State Champion Lenetta Lee who holds a season best of 12.24, and is looking to get back to her PR of 12.11.

The Girls 400m features a loaded lineup, and looks to be dominated by Missouri athletes. Class 5 All-Stater Emari Grimes (Fort Osage) has the top seed time by a Missourian, and second best overall with a 56.19 she ran at Districts last year. Next is Shelby Butts (Raytown) who has a seed time and PR of 56.63, and was also All-State in Class 5. Class 3 State Champion Jhordin Galmore (MICDS) is also in the field with a PR of 57.55, and she is joined by Class 3 Runner Up Hadley Jetmore (Pembroke Hill) who owns a PR of 56.75.

Girls Distance

Class 5 State Medalist Addie Coppinger (St. Teresa's) is the top overall seed in the 800m coming in with a PR of 2:15.81. She'll be joined by Audrey Parson (Lee's Summit West), Brocklyn Barber (Ozark), Kaylee Wilson (Jackson), Palmer Mihalevich (MICDS), Madelynn Hill (Liberty), Madison Hulsey (Lee's Summit West), and Claire Ayers (Washington). Most of that group owns State Medals in the 800m, and those who don't have one in the 4x800m. This field is pretty loaded (all have ran 2:20 or lower) and could lead to some fast times.

The 1600 is stacked from top to bottom with both Missouri runners and those from across the midwest. Missouri's top runners is a Kansas City trio of Tessa Valdivia (Blue Springs), Ginger Murnieks (Lee's Summit West), and Madelynn Hill (Liberty). Valdivia placed 4th at State last year in Class 5 and holds a PR of 5:01. Murnieks has never ran the open 1600m but split 4:58 in the DMR at Arcadia and is the defending XC State Champion. Madelynn Hill was 5th at State last year, but ran 4:57 in the Mile at Festival of Miles a week later. These three plus the field which includes four more sub 5:00 girls should put on a show Saturday afternoon.

Madelyn Hill also is the top Missourian running the 3200m on Friday with a PR of 10:55, and she will be joined by Tessa Valdivia who comes in with a PR of 11:05.

Girls Throws

Mikayla DeShazer (Lincoln College Prep) is the big dog of Missouri throws this year after finishing last year in the top 20 nationally in both shot and disc. She'll be throwing both this weekend, and comes in with PR's of 47-3.75 and 159-10. We are also going to get a Class 5 State preview in the Shot Put with two of the top three throwers squaring off. State runner up Kennedy Aurentz (Kickapoo) will face off against Maddie Harris (Lee's Summit West). Harris has the best throw between the two this season with a 44-7, while Aurentz has a season best of 43-7 but owns a PR of 45-7.5.

Girls Jumps

Defending Class 5 State Champion Leah North (St. Teresa's) headlines a trio of elite Missouri jumpers in the meet this year. She holds a PR of 18-10.75 from State last year and will look to get back there again. She is joined by Class 3 All-Stater Lenetta Lee (Summit Christian) with a PR of 18-9, and Marshaun Bostic (Gateway) who owns a 19-2.5 PR from last week.

Jessica Haney (Lee's Summit West) has the top overall mark in the High Jump entering the meet with 5-9 from last year at State, and cleared 5-8 this season already at Arcadia.
