Cardinal Ritter Breaks State Record in 4x400m
When I did my meet preview for Kirkwood, I mentioned that this group could do something special on Saturday. However, I did not envision them breaking the State Record.
The relay team of Jaden Williams, Lee Steward, Jameson Williams, and Hasani Barr put together the most impressive display of speed that this State has ever seen in the 4x400m Relay. Jaden Williams and Steward combined for a split of 1:39 which averages out to a 49 between the two of them (I had Jaden at 50.5 and Steward at 49 on my watch). Then Jameson Williams get the baton and lays down a MONSTER leg with a split of 45.46. Absolutely incredible. Next up was Baylor commit Hasani Barr who is back and healthy. He laid down a 47.76 split to pick up a final time of 3:13.15. It's incredible that they were able to do it in the first place, but even more incredible when you take into account that they ran the whole thing unchallenged. That 3:13.15 isn't just a state record either, it is also the second fastest time in the entire country right now.
Johnny Brackins Jumps U.S. No. 3 in Long Jump
Johnny Brackins has had a breakout season this year for Lee's Summit, and open a ton of eyes again on Friday night. He took first place in the Long Jump at Darwin Rold Invitational with a MASSIVE leap of 25-1.5. Not only is that the third best jump in the United States this year, but it is also the second best jump in State History. It's crazy to think that he's only a sophomore, and will just keep improving over the next few years.
