Class 5 Girls
Sprints
The sprints looks to be battle with familiar names. Courtney Williams (Nerinx Hall) will be a contender in all three races along with Danielle Frank (Hazelwood Central). Frank has the fastest 100m time coming in with a 11.67, followed by Williams at 11.69 and Lauryn Taylor (McCluer North) at 11.74. Williams has the fastest 200m with a 23.91, followed by Tyra Wilson (Rock Bridge) at 24.27, Frank at 24.30, and Taylor at 24.74. The 400m looks to be Williams's for the taking as she enters with a time of 55.70, ahead of Frank at 56.56.
Michelle Owens (McCluer North) will square off with Tyra Wilson (Rock Bridge) for the title in the 100H. Owens enters with the fastest time with a 13.79, followed by Wilson at 13.92, and then Kiara Strayhorn (Jefferson City) at 14.14. In the the 300H it looks to be all Tyra Wilson, as she has a season best of 42.38, and Paige Magee (Battle) is the next fastest with a time of 44.06.
Distance
The distance will see plenty of Lee's Summit West Titans fighting for State titles. In the 800m Addie Coppinger (St. Teresa's) will look to hold off a pair of Titans in Madison Hulsey (Lee's Summit West) and Audrey Parson (Lee's Summit West), along with Madelynn Hill (Liberty). All these girls are from the same Sectional, and they ran their season bests there on Monday with Coppinger winning with a time 2:13.49, Hulsey in second with a 2:13.50, Parson third with a 2:14.37, and Hill forth with a 2:14.80.
The 1600 looks to be a three horse race between Maddie Hill, Ginger Murnieks (Lee's Summit West), and Madison Hulsey. Hill has the fastest time this year with a 4:56, followed by Murnieks at 4:59, and Hulsey at 5:01. The 3200m looks to be a battle between Murnieks and Hill as well, with Murnieks having the fastest time coming in with a 10:43 to Hill's 10:50.
Jumps
Jessica Haney (Lee's Summit West) will look to secure her 4th straight High Jump State Championship this weekend. She enters the meet with a season best of 5-8, while the next best jumps this season have been at 5-5. This puts her in a good position to pull of the feat of being the State Champion all four years of her high school career.
The Long Jump looks to be a fight between Kiara Strayhorn (Jefferson City) and Brooke Jenkins (Pattonville). Strayhorn has the best jump this year with a 19-5, and Jenkins is just behind her with a 19-3. Those jumps are a whole foot ahead of the rest of the competition. Triple Jump could go a few different ways as well, with Serena Williams (Battle) having the best jump this year with a 39-7.5, but Tyra Wilson (Rock Bridge) and Brooke Jenkins (Pattonville) are just behind her at 39-2 and 39-1.
There are two Ozark Tigers up front in the Pole Vault, and they'll look to keep it that way this weekend. Olivia Lyon (Ozark) has the best mark this season, coming into the State meet with a vault of 12-6, and Katie Beets (Ozark) is second with a vault of 11-9.
Throws
Maddie Harris (Lee's Summit West) enters the weekend with the farthest Shot Put throw this season with a 47-4.5. To finish as the champion she'll need to fend off Jacqueline David (William Chrisman) and Kennedy Aurentz (Kickapoo) who have thrown 44-10 and 44-9.5 respectively.
Jacqueline David is the favorite in discus this weekend with a season best throw of 148-7. Her closest challenger looks to be Karly Parcell (Hickman) who enters with a throw of 143-2. Megan Fortner (Northwest-Cedar Hill) has the top mark in javelin this season and will look to hold off defending State Champion Maddie Harris who has a season best of 142-6.
