The Boys to Watch During the 2020 Track Season

Justin Robinson (Hazelwood West)

Arguably the best Missouri high school sprinter ever, Robinson is looking to wrap up a stellar high school career this spring. The Arizona State commit comes into the season with the state record in the 400m with a 44.84, and second fastest times in our database in Missouri history for both the 100m and 200m with PR's of 10.32, and 20.98 respectively. He's the reigning U-20 national champion in the 400m, and represented Team USA this summer in both the U-20 Pan-American games and the Senior Pan-American Games. In the U-20 games he picked up the gold in the 400m, and broke the U-20 world record in the 4x400m as Team USA ran 2:59.30 to win gold. He then picked up the bronze medal in the 400m in the senior games, and helped Team USA earn a silver medal in the 4x400m.

Wes Porter (Rockhurst)

Fresh off of capturing the 2019 Class 4 Cross Country State Title, Porter will look to carry his momentum into the track season. He has the second fastest returning times in both the 1600m (4:15) and the 3200m (9:22) and is the top returner in Class 5. After blazing a 14:53 5K (4:48 average) at Sectionals, I think it's safe to say Porter may have more in the tank for Track. I wouldn't be shocked at all if Porter makes a run for the 9:00 barrier in the 3200m this Spring.

Jack Crull (Helias Catholic)

He was the runner up to Porter in Class 4 Cross Country a few weeks ago, but he owns the fastest returning times in both the 1600m and 3200m with a 4:13 and 9:17 respectively. He's also the reigning Class 4 State Champion in the 800m where he owns a PR of 1:54. Crull could make a run a winning all three individual titles in Class 4, which he was going to attempt last year before the State meet was cut to one day due to weather.

Johnny Brackins (Lee's Summit)

Brackins was last year's breakout performer, and heading into the 2020 season he has the fastest 110 Hurdle time at 14.20, and the best long and triple jumps at 25-1.5 and 48-10.5 respectively. That 25 foot jump was the sixth furthest jump in the United States last year among high schoolers as well. He'll look to repeat as State Champ in the Long Jump, and capture titles in the hurdles and triple jump as well where he was the runner up last season.

Brandon Miller (John Burroughs)

After an injury cut his junior track season short, the John Burroughs Senior will likely remind everyone who he is the first time he steps on a track this Spring. His 800m PR of 1:49.55 stands as the second fastest time in State History, and is a whopping .01 off of the record. Look for him to comeback strong and ready to break that record this Spring.

Chris Dupree (Park Hill South)

He's the second fastest 400m runner in State History, and he'll look to have another fantastic year in 2020. He recently committed to run at 400m University (Baylor), and will look to build upon his 46.57 PR this year. One this for sure, when he and Justin Robinson step on the track for the Class 5 400m this Fall, the entire state will grind to a halt to watch them put on a show.
