Salute to Seniors: Third Wave

Name: Carter Hemeyer

School: Hermann High School

Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?

A: I have to train on my own and take myself to what I think the limit is for the day.

Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?

A: I am doing homework or playing video games when I am not running.

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?

A: At the Southern Stampede during Cross Country season. I lost my shoe picked it up because the chip was on it and finished the race. I ended up breaking the School Record that day.

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

A: I lost my shoe during a race

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

A: My teammate Dalton Gleeson would be my biggest competitor. he is a great runner and we push each other to where we are now.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: My greatest accomplishment is when I got third at state in the mile. My grandfather got third at state too. I never got to meet him, but I know he was watching me that day.

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

A: Nothing. My school gave me the opportunity to do both run track and play baseball, and I have done that all four years and I love it.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

A: Having to choose between baseball and track has been the hardest obstacle. For the practices, I run before baseball so that part is pretty easy.

Q: What will you miss the most?

A: I will miss my coaches and teammates the most because while I will be leaving them behind, I will also be leaving the memories I had with them behind too.

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

A: If there is something you want to do ask. I had the opportunity to get my varsity letter in 5 sports this year, but I couldn't due to the current situation. I was given that opportunity because I asked each coach if they would allow me to split time with another team. They all said yes. If I would have never asked, I would have never been given that opportunity.

Q: What kind of impact has your coach had on you and your team?

A: Our coach has brought winning ways to our program it is his third year, so he started when I was a sophomore, and back then, we really weren't known for winning a lot, but last year we placed 8th in class 2 and got everyone who placed back. This year we moved up a class but still had the same intentions, to go and win state.

Q: What are your college plans?

A: I will be running at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy

Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

A: I would like to say thank you to all of my coaches as well as my teammates. They have pushed me to be the athlete I am now.

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

A: I am a third-generation state athlete. As I said earlier, my grandpa finished third in the mile in 1964 class B. My father actually finished 8th in the mile in 1988 he was a sophomore. He has been just as good of a coach as anyone.
