2022 Glendale Girls Night Out Recap

Springfield Public Schools and it's five high schools (Central, Glendale, Hillcrest, Kickapoo, Parkview) host the Glendale Girls Night Out and the Hillcrest Boys Invitational every year on a Thursday and Friday in early April at Parkview's JFK Stadium. The meets attract schools from a wide range of sizes, classes, and areas of the state including southwest, south, mid-south, west-central, mid-Missouri, as well as the Kansas City and St. Louis areas.

Teams head out as the rain and a few snowflakes fall.

The ladies kicked things off on Thursday in brutal weather conditions. Temperatures ranged throughout the day between 38 and 52-degress but blustery winds made it bitterly cold. On the final leg of the meet's final event, the 4x400-meters, the clouds finally let go and rain began pouring. A few snowflakes fell with the rain as teams hustled off the track to pack up and head home. About the same time, small bits of hail fell for a short time a few miles away.

With teammates cheering on while trying to stay warm, Ozark senior Ellie Kitchin (right) and Hickman freshman Sy'Rae Stemmons battle to the finish in the rain in the 4x400 at the 2022 Glendale Girls Night Out track and field meet in Springfield, Thursday, April 7.
