The second meet of the year for Smithville was a rather brisk one, in terms of the
time the meet ran -- about four hours - and in terms of the
temperatures.
The April 19 meet was held with a wind chill in the upper 30s, feeling not-so-spring-like. Despite the conditions there were some highlight showings, including six 'elite' performances.
Four of the six belonged to Regan Kimrey of Pleasant Hill (discus, shot put) and Odessa's Keilee Johnson (shot put, javelin). The host, Smithville, had elite distances in the discus from Kali Brown and shot put from Lucas Trotter.
There were also some notable performances as well. Freshman Brooke Beck from Pleasant Hill won the 200- and 400-meter dashes. In the 200, she won in 27.00, a hair ahead of Class 3 champion Brooklyn Holtman of Maryville, who finished in 27.01.
