Family Ties

Distance running, cross country, and track and field are the most social of sports, and one person's experience, can lead to one family members interest and participation in the sport, which can increase the desire for another relative to participate.

The Class 4 girls competition at the 2022 state track and field championships was filled with lots of families being represented by more than one person at the meet. While there were a handful of coaches whose state qualifying athletes included one of their own kids in Jefferson City, families were especially represented at state by siblings competing as qualifying athletes.

St. Louis County school Cor Jesu Academy featured three Luna sisters. Senior Franci, junior Adi, and sophomore Maria led the Charges to state cross country finishes of 2nd in Class 4 in 2020, and 3rd in Class 5 in 2021. Franci (Frances) gave up soccer to run track and field for the first time a year ago. Sisters Adi (Adrienne) and Maria did the same this year and the trio led Cor Jesu to a 4th-place 4x800 finish. Franci also won the 1600-meters and was 3rd in the 3200-meters. Adi earned a second medal at the meet with her 6th-place finish in the 3200-meters.
