Varsity Girls Blue



The Varsity Girls Blue Race went off at 9:00 a.m. A pair of Wildcats went thru 1k together with Montgomery County's Lyric Ford and Harrisonville's Kayleigh Norris running side by side at 3:28, with Norris' timing tag not working. Montgomery County's Malia Rodgers was 3rd while Fulton's Emery Mayfield, and Sisely Mitchell of Platte County were 4th and 5th. Mayfield and Mitchell steadily made-up ground.

Down the final homestretch, Mitchell chased Mayfield, just off her shoulder while Ford was a couple seconds back and Norris a few more. Fulton's Mayfield didn't faulter, holding strong to get the win in 18:50.6 while Mitchell settled for the silver medal, crossing just behind in 18:51.4. Ford and Norris made it four under 19-minutes, taking 3rd and 4th in 18:54 and 18:58.

Ford's teammate Malia Rodgers was 5th in 19:28, helping the Wildcats to a 12th-place finish for the Class 3 school, behind mostly Class 4 and Class 5 schools, and just two other Class 3 schools. Fatima's Lauren Berhorst was 6th in 19:48, Sullivan's Emily Willman was 7th in 20:00, in a field of 246 racers.

The St. Joseph's Academy Angels were in control the whole race and earned the team title with just 91 points, giving the St. Louis County school more than a 100-point margin of victory. Freshman Savannah Amann was one of three medalists for the Angels, taking 13th in 20:38. Junior Cate Guenther and sophomore Macie Diguiseppe were 19th and 23rd to earn medals.

Platte County, just like their top runner Sisely Mitchell, finished strong. The Lady Pirates were 3rd the whole race before moving up in the final kilometer. They totaled 214 points to edge fellow Kansas City area school Park Hill (224) for the runner-up team trophy.

Just 2-points separated 4th-5th-6th-places. The Lebanon Yellowjackets held on for 4th with 283 points, Ladue was 5th with 284 and Central (Cape Girardeau) 6th with 285-points in the field of 30 scoring teams.
