Burns and Hansen will face professionals like Tinman Elite's Austin Miller, Empire Elite's Ben Allen, and Oregon Track Club's Reed Brown, Jack Yearian, and Matt Wisner. Brown, like Burns, joined the U.S. high school sub-4-minute mile club at the Festival of Miles in St. Louis. Brown did so as a Texas high school senior in 2017 before moving onto the college ranks where he wrapped up an All-American career at Oregon in 2022.
Burns and the rest of the Hirsch Men's Mile field race on national TV. The second half of the meet will be broadcast on NBC from 3-5:00 p.m. CT. Burns kicked off his senior indoor season with a state record and the 2022-23 U.S. HS indoor 2-mile #2 performance of 8:48.53.
Also scheduled to compete in New York:
Former Principia High School superstar Issam Asinga, who has transferred to Montverde Academy in Florida for his senior year. Asinga, who recently committed to attend and compete for Texas A& M University, is set to race in the high school boy's 60-meter and 300-meter dash.
Cardinal Ritter Prep alum Charles "CJ" Jones will pace the Men's 800-meters. Jones was a state record-setter for the Lions, shining in the 400 and 800-meters before earning All-American honors at Texas Tech. He competes for UA Mission Run Baltimore.
Georgia native and recent Missouri Baptist University grad Jordan Crawford will race in the Men's 1-mile racewalk. Crawford was one of the NAIA's best and is one of the top U.S. racewalkers.
