Vienna's Byrd to be honored by Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame announced a list of players and coaches that will be honored at the spring sports luncheon on Friday.

The ceremony will happen on Wednesday, June 7 at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield.

Former Vienna High School track and field and cross country coach Mick Byrd has been honored for all of his time coaching at the mid-Missouri school.

He's coached softball for 40 years, girls basketball for 33 years, 22 years for girls track and field and one season each for volleyball, cross country and junior high football.

His track and field team won three district titles and 19 Gasconade Valley Conference conference championships.

Byrd is a Vienna graduate (1975) and played three sports there before going on to the College of the Ozarks. He was inducted into the Missouri High School Softball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2020.

The Hall of Fame also announced the Diamond 9 Awards. The awards recognize former high school, college and pro standouts who made positive contributions to either baseball or softball.

That group included a former state track and field champion Anessa Alexander Roller from Strafford. She was on a state championship team in 2005 and was all-state in 2008 before going to play at Crowder College. In 2008, she was the state champion in triple jump and was the runner-up in high jump in 2009.

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit and, throughout its 29-year history, has never applied for state or federal funding. It relies exclusively on private donations, sponsorships or revenue from events, according to a press release.
