Father Tolton Regional Catholic dominated the distance events and that might be enough to win a state championship at the MSHSAA Class 2 State Championships.
The Trailblazers have 30 points after day one of the competition in Jefferson City -- coming from two distance events.
The 4x800-meter relay team set a new school record with a time of 9:42.60 -- an 18-second margin of victory.
Jillian Andrews, Olivia Andrews, Madison Taylor and Elyse Wilmes compared that team.
Olivia Andrews won her second title of the day when she won the 3,200-meter run by 19 seconds. Teammate Makaylin Viet was the runner-up to give her team 18 points in that event.
North Platte is in second with 19 points, 11 of those coming from the 3,200-meter run.
Butler's Annalee Gardner won pole vault title with a jump of 3.53 meters -- the only competitor to clear 11 feet. That has Butler in third place with 15 points.
East Buchanan's Rilyn Sherwood won the triple jump -- 10.94 meters -- and the Bulldogs are tied for fourth with Monroe City. Sherwood is the third straight triple jump champion for East Buchanan and the ninth straight year for a medalist in the event for the Gower school. Her winning jump came on her final attempt and this was only her eighth time doing the event -- a factoid posted by the East Buchanan track and field Twitter account.
The only other championships award were won by Schuyler County and Harrisburg.
Kaitlyn Hatfield won the discus title for Schuyler County with a throw of 38.48 meters -- coming on her third throw of prelims. She won the event 12 times out of 15 events this season.
In a competitive javelin throw, the top four finishers all had their best throw in their final attempt. Harrisburg's Emma Fischer threw 38.16 meters to win after sitting in second place heading into the final throw.
The mark was enough for a new school record.
