In his first trip to the state finals, the freshman won the shot put in MSHSAA Class 5 with a throw of 19.60 meters, a new class record and gave him the title. He was also the runner-up in the discus event.
He won with 81% of the votes. The other nominees were Arhmad Branch, Festus; Joshua Manning, Lee's Summit and Jeffery Files, Ft. Zumwalt North.
