Carrie Vestal was a standout runner at Parkview High School in Springfield. She finished 8th in the 3200 meters at the 2003 Class 4 state track meet as a junior in 11:36 to earn All-State honors. She qualified for the state cross country championships 4 times, with a best finish in Class 4 of 39th as a junior in 2002.
Vestal had a solid career at Missouri State, earning All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. She also finished with a PR of 35:29 for 10,000 meters on the track. Vestal married her college teammate Travis Mack, an 800-meter standout at Liberty High School and Missouri State University. The Macks live in Oregon and have a 2-year-old son.
Mack competes for Littlewing Athletics and will race in her 2nd straight Marathon Trials. However, she'll run the 2024 edition like she did the 2000 edition, dealing with injuries. Bone injuries and stress fractures have been the thief keeping Mack from being at her best for the Trials.
